Senate Republicans Pulling Out of California?

Not exactly a bode of confidence in the Carly Fiorina campaign from the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Boxer, in particular, has done so well that national Democrats have argued that the NRSC’s withdrawal of a $1.9 million ad buy for the last week before the Nov. 2 election was a sign that the GOP wants to move the money to other races and is giving up on their candidate, former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. Republicans say they merely wanted to give Fiorina flexibility to spend the money around the state and not just in one city.
Spin as they might, withdrawing nearly $2 million in support isn't the action a committee bullish on its candidate takes. And little wonder. The Pollster.com sensitive trend estimate is picking up real movement in the race.

The three most recent surveys, again according to Pollster.com, show Democrat Barbara Boxer leading by 8 percentage points, 6 percentage points and 6 percentage points, respectively. Each of the last seven polls from the state show the Democrat leading. So cutting losses might not be the worst course of action for the NRSC at this point, even if it means conceding a race they not all that long ago thought they could win.

  1. The polls tend to skew a bit on the conservative side - I don't think it's even as close as 8 points.
