"One of the Most Corrupt Administrations"?

Apparently the House Republicans have a new talking point:
The Republican congressman who is taking over responsibility for congressional oversight called President Obama's administration "one of the most corrupt administrations" on Sunday and predicted that the investigations he is planning over the next two years could result in about $200 billion in savings for U.S. taxpayers.
It's well and good that the Republicans have come up with strong terminology to describe their immense hatred of President Obama. But there's a problem here: the attack just doesn't pass the smell test.

The GOP could attack Barack Obama and the Democratic Party on jobs or the economy; most Americans wouldn't place complete blame on the President and his party -- I certainly don't -- but it's an attack that is nonetheless salient. Likewise, the GOP could attack President Obama for getting sidetracked with the issue of healthcare. Again, I don't think there's much merit there, and a great number of Americans believe there was no way to address the country's economic woes without tackling health reform -- but it's still a viable attack.

But corruption? Really? Something that doesn't really pass the smell test? When there's no there there, attacks like that just make the Republicans sound silly -- not exactly the way one would think they'd want to start off their new House majority.

  1. Oh yeah, we're off to a bang-up start from the Party of Tantrums. If Obama has one of the most corrupt administrations, what does that make George W. Bush?
